Expertise and professional focus:

Nicole's particular interests lie in debunking wellness fads, educating folks on women’s sexual health, and personal interest stories.

In 2018, she spent a year working and researching LEEP procedures, talking with experts from the Journal of Sexual Medicine, and discovering the link between the cervix and depression. She has extensive experience discussing difficult topics related to painful conditions like vaginismus, polycystic ovary syndrome, and vulvodynia. For her story on LEEP procedures, she interviewed over 11 women about the side effects of the procedure. She's also led workshops on healing from vaginismus.

Highlights:

Nicole was previously the women’s health editor for Giddy, the largest sexual health platform in the world, the editorial associate for the Chicago Reader, one of the oldest alt-weekly newspapers in the United States, and a freelancer for Playboy, SELF, Vice, Healthline, VeryWell, Metro UK, and MedTruth. She has over 10 years of experience in journalism.

Prior to health journalism, she wrote exhibition reviews for art galleries in Chicago. However, after publishing her first personal essay on Bustle in 2016, she learned that people weren't talking enough about their aches and pains, especially those related to sexual health. As a result, she dove head-first into the health field.

Personal interests:

When Nicole's not sitting at her laptop editing or writing, she's roaming — or swimming — around one of the Great Lakes, going to hot yoga, or talking to her cat Strudel.
