Lemme Supplements: We Asked Experts About Their Effectiveness

Kourtney Kardashian, a media personality, has launched a vitamin and supplement line called Lemme. A review by WellnessPulse reveals that some products may lack substantiation.

Kardashian, 45, who is not a stranger to promoting wellness products on social media, now has her own supplements, which come in the form of gummies, capsules, tinctures, and soft chews.

The products promise a wide range of benefits — from better sleep to improved vaginal microbiome and even reduced cellulite. Some of these claims have been criticized for exploiting women's insecurities, like vaginal odor.

Key takeaways:

Are Lemme supplements tested?

The website says products are made 'with clinically-studied ingredients backed by science.' This implies that Lemme supplements’ whole formulas haven't been tested in clinical trials — only their individual ingredients.

Products that contain ingredients in the same form and dose as used in clinical trials can be a reliable option that may help people experience similar outcomes as what is shown in the medical literature, according to Lauren Manaker, a registered dietitian.

Lauryna Nelkine, MSc in nutrition science and managing health content researcher at WellnessPulse says clinical trials allow the evaluation of the product's whole formula.

Health Content Researcher

In the United States, supplements are regulated more like a category of food than drugs, meaning the Food and Drug Administration doesn't approve them for safety and efficacy. This creates the environment for dishonest supplement manufacturers to make exaggerated claims or withhold information about potential risks.

Lemme supplements are marketed as free of high-fructose corn syrup, gelatin, silicon dioxide, gluten, GMO, artificial sweeteners, synthetic colors, dairy, and FD&C dyes.

Nelkine calls these claims marketing terms that are tailored to certain consumer demands, trends, or phobias. In general, a 'free of gluten' label could be important for individuals with gluten sensitivity or allergy, evidence shows that some brands using this label fail to ensure that the product does not contain gluten.

However, WellnessPulse doesn't have evidence that Lemme's label makes misleading claims about its gluten content.

'GMO-free' label is another marketing claim, as many people are afraid of consuming genetically modified foods and ingredients despite research showing they are safe, Nelkine says.

Lemme review the gummies

For the analysis, we picked three Lemme gummy products: Lemme Debloat, Lemme Sleep, and Lemme Purr.

Lemme Debloat gummies are indicated for relieving bloating, digestion, gut health, and occasional gas. They contain two clinically studied probiotics, LactoSpore (Bacillus coagulans) and DE111 (Bacillus subtilis).

According to Nelkine, bloating can be a very complex issue caused by the menstrual cycle and certain foods, among other things. It can also be a sign of gut disorders like irritable bowel syndrome. Therefore, bloating may not necessarily be addressed with supplements.

"Probiotic supplements should contain adequate amounts of live probiotic cells to provide any benefits to our health. Meanwhile, this product contains a proprietary probiotic blend, meaning that it is not clear what amounts of each probiotic are used in the mix to evaluate its potential effects," Nelkine says.

She recommends consulting a healthcare practitioner to be prescribed probiotics with evidence-backed beneficial bacterial strains, tested formulation, and live bacteria counts for intended health goals, which may depend on the individual.

Lemme Sleep gummies promise to help you fall asleep fast and sleep long. Some ingredients like melatonin, L-theanine, and magnesium have been shown to affect various sleep parameters and have properties for stress relief and relaxation, Nelkine says.

"The product additionally contains a proprietary blend of several herbs, so it is hard to estimate their potential effects without knowing how much of each ingredient the supplement contains and how the whole formulation will affect the consumer," she adds.

Tod Cooperman, MD, president and founder of ConsumerLab.com, which provides independent reviews of health products, says melatonin supplements should be taken 30 minutes before bed, as the Lemme Sleep label states. However, chewing a sticky candy 30 minutes before bed could leave sugars stuck to the teeth overnight.

He points to the supplement's high price — $30 for 60 gummies. With a serving size of two gummies, consumers receive 5 mg of melatonin and relatively small amounts of other ingredients, like 20 mg of magnesium.

"A dollar a day for 5 mg of melatonin is very expensive. Among products that ConsumerLab has tested and reviewed, we've found that you can get 5 mg of high-quality melatonin for as little as 10 cents from a liquid or pill. Also, many people don't need 5 mg — just one gummy containing 2.5 mg melatonin should be enough to help a person fall asleep," he adds.

Lemme Purr gummies contain probiotic SNZ 1969 (B. coagulans) and vitamin C. According to the company's website, they support vaginal freshness and odor.

"Give your vagina the sweet treat it deserves (and turn it into a sweet treat). You know what they say…you are what you eat," Kardashian wrote on Instagram after the launch of the supplement.

Some studies show that the probiotic strain B. coagulans can help reduce the occurrence of vaginal infections in some cases. Moreover, the claims that certain vaginal infections can lead to unpleasant vaginal odor are correct, Nelkine says.

However, it does not necessarily mean that the amounts of this probiotic in the given supplement or the formulation together with other ingredients will indeed reduce the occurrence of vaginal infections and, in turn, reduce vaginal odor.

It is very important to make a distinction between the foul odor that is attributed to vaginal infections and natural vaginal odor. There is nothing wrong with a natural vaginal smell, and women should not be encouraged to spend money on products or practices trying to change it.

The verdict on Lemme gummies

Abbey Sharp, a Toronto-based registered dietitian, says she would not use gummies.

"I probably wouldn't choose this product over a third-party tested supplement that contains actual clinically studied dosages, not just clinically studied ingredients," Sharp said in her TikTok video while reviewing the supplements.

@abbeyskitchen I am going to pass on Kourtney Kardashian’s new gummy supplements, Lemme. There are a lot of reasons I’m not really impressed but the number one is that I see no evidence that they’re third party tested. That is a huge no no for me. @kourtneykardashian #kourtneykardashian #lemme #lemmevitamins #gummyvitamins #matcha #greenscreen ♬ A Drug From God - Chris Lake & Grimes

Nelkine says studies show that many brands fail to label their products correctly and to ensure high-quality standards during manufacturing, putting consumers' health at risk.

However, this may not apply to Lemme supplements.

She says, "Celebrity-endorsed supplements and their attractive marketing can mislead the consumers, giving a false impression that it is a magic bullet to their health issues, preventing them from seeking a proper medical diagnosis and treatment on time."

Are gummies a reliable form of supplement?

Gummies are an increasingly popular form of supplement, and their global market value is projected to increase from $3,721.28 million in 2021 to $5,714.59 million by 2030.

Tod Cooperman says that gummies generally contain more unstable ingredients, so they are more likely to lose potency over time.

Moreover, gummy supplements tend to cost more than other forms and typically contain added sugar. Because gummies are sticky, they can stick to the teeth and foster bacteria.

Cooperman tells WellnessPulse, "Some people, particularly children, may overconsume them because they taste like candy."

Manaker says the best way to ensure the gummy supplement actually contains what the label claims is by buying a third-party independently verified product, which, according to their website, Lemme is.

Class action lawsuit

In August 2024, it was announced that Lemme may soon be facing a class action lawsuit after Zimmerman Reed launched an investigation into the supplement line.

The law firm wrote on their website that Lemme may have 'violated consumers' rights by misleadingly and deceptively marketing its products.'

The Lemme Purr Gummies, Lemme Curb Capsules, Lemme Debloat Gummies, and Lemme Matcha Gummies are all being investigated.
